EPSRC Grant
We are excited to announce that we have successfully received over £50k from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) as part of the Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) program. This grant was developed to encourage knowledge exchange between academic engineering and science research and real world applications by advancing technical innovation or providing economic and social benefits.
We will be using this grant to do several different things. First, in cooperation with the University of Sheffield, we will be getting a software engineer on board to update our PiCam software, in order to enable and enhance real time data processing. Something we have been working toward for a long time, as the remote placement of many of our camera systems can make data recovery challenging.
Next, we are working with the Observatorio Argentino de Vigilancia Volcanica, a branch of the Argentine Geological and Mining Service (SEGEMAR-OAVV) in Argentina, providing them with two PiCam Systems. Dr. Pering will be travelling to Argentina in early 2027 to install the PiCams at Copahue and Planchon-Peteroa volcanoes and provide the OAVV team with full training.
And finally, we will be sending team members and a PiCam to the Philippines in spring of 2027 for installation and training, in cooperation with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). Discussions about where the installation will be are still ongoing, so keep an eye on our social media pages for more details in the spring.
