Volcanology in Practice Symposium
We are very excited to be one of the official partners for the 2025 Volcanology in Practice Symposium hosted by Niigata University in Japan, taking place from October 7-10, 2025. “The symposium aims to foster international networking, knowledge sharing, and showcase Japan's expertise in volcano hazard management, and showcase the cutting-edge of volcano monitoring and research equipment.”(https://www.thevolcano.world/about.html)
Dr. Tom Pering will be attending and giving the Keynote lecture on Thursday morning, October 9th, opening the second day discussions on The Next Generation of Volcano Monitoring and Volcanic Processes with his talk Results and reflections from a network of low-cost permanent ultraviolet cameras for sulphur dioxide measurements.The talk will outline the importance of the growing low-cost instrumentation available, highlighting the recent successes of our growing UV camera installations around the world.
Dr. Pering will also present a poster by our PhD candidate, Rebecca England, in the lunchtime poster session on Thursday. The poster lays out Rebeccas work in developing a SpectroGas devise.
Tom will be wrapping up Thursday’s discussions by hosting a Volcano monitoring tools workshop where he will be giving tips on selecting monitoring tools and exhibiting some of our kit, our PiCam and PiGas, alongside others in a monitoring equipment session.
